Mesquite Elementry School
Senior year I got the opportunity to take the Intro into Education class offered throughout high school. Mesquite elementary was a great learning environment because of the differnt types of teachings. This class had various assignments for all types of learners. There was a large amount of curriculum I learned that there was so much more to teaching than I ever imagined. Through this class we did service learning at Mesquite Elementry. We were all assigned classrooms and went a few hours a week through out the second semester of the school year. This opportunity was a growing experience for myself more than anything else. Working with older kids was very different for me. There wasn’t a day that I was not learning in this class. I came in thinking I wanted a teacher and left being sure of it!

I had great service learning teachers. I got to learn what it is like to grade, and grade and grade some more. Although this was tiring work, it taught me ways of grading that went faster than others. I got to set up a lot of bulletin boards outside the classroom showing off whatever art, or project that the kids at worked on the last few weeks in work. It was a lot of fun, and allowed me to be creative, and taught me to use the resources I have instead of just run out and buy things for it. I was the student intern for two teachers, and these two teachers taught together. They both were the master of 2 subjects, and the kids would switch classrooms, and see the other teacher for the other. I had never seen this kind of teaching before. I think it was an excellent Idea because maybe if the student didn’t work well with one teacher, they would with another, and allowed them to get up and move throughout the day. The 6th grader’s loves to test the water. They really were not afraid of much, and there really wasn’t too much that would make them behave. It was all if they wanted to that day.
